I am now........ 15 weeks post op! almost 4 months! Seems like ages ago now. I had an oppoinment with my authodonsit today for a checkup she seemed very pleased, i had been weairng more bands for 6 weeks in a triangle kind of shape to move my teeth. Today she told me braces will be off very soon, and said next time i see her she will arrrange a debracing day, yayyy at last :D im so exited.

My teeth dont seem completly perfect though yet, she told me to come back in 6 weeks then she will do that last tweaking then its done! I think i may phone up a few teeth whitening cliniss tommorrow, im so exited about having white teeth, sounds silly but ive been more exited than that than i was to have the surgery. I just cant wait until its finished and i will finaly feel proud to smile and show me straight white smile :)

Heres me 10 weeks post op, chewing alot better now, although my mouth still wont open more than half an inch which is a bit worrying, overwise everythings fine, just hope it wont be to much longer untill the braces are off!

Well im almost 8 weeks post op now. Still have no feeling back in my lower lip or chin but for the last week patches in my chin seem to be constantly tingling so i supose thats a good sign! i just hope most of it comes back by the time i go back to college so im not making a massive mess with food all down my face in the cafateria!

Hmm i think it is just the swelling it should go down soon

Tuesday 31 July 2007

Hey, Well Ive decided to put some new pics up as asked for by Chris! My Camera seems to be playing up at the moment and the flash keeps going off making the photos blurry, so ive just taken the photo
in black and white instead.
The top photo is my new side profile and jaw line.

Heres me from the front, notice how thin my top lip is (although it does appear even thinner in this photo because im slightly smilling!) But my mouth never seems to close now so that could be do to with the top lip being so small, hopefully its just to do with swelling and my lip will go back to normal size!

5 weeks and 6 days post op now! I had my bands taken off competly a few days ago and my wires changed so finally my teeth are begining to get back to normal and straghten up again. Feels wierd not having the bands, my mouths opening more now, i can now fit 1 finger in my mouth! My jaw seems to be moving backwards abit though.. So i wouldnt be suprised if next time i see the authodontist hel tell me to put the bands on again at night.

Ive been having a few down days the last few days considering if this operation has been worth it all heres my pro's and con's to the operation...

Pro's:

*I can smile
*I have a 'normal' bite
*Will be able to eat food better
*Not so self consious about profile

Con's:

*Face(jaw line) Has become unsymmetrical
*Worried feeling wont come back in lip and chin
*I dont think the operation has actualy made me any better looking!!
*I have a lisp
*My top lip seems to have disapeared! Its got really thin!

I seem to have more con's at the moment but im hoping within the next few months most of those should be fixed

Week 4:

I went back to my authodontists today, i thought id be getting my bands taken off.. It turns out when i had taken my bands of before to give my mouth a clean id put them back on the wrong way! Which has ment it has been forcing my bottom jaw backwards ahh exactly what i didnt want.. i new it didnt feel right. Anyway so he put some new ones on which feel much better, although it means ill have 2 wear these for an extra 2 weeks. He did say however that i can take them off during the day and just put them on during the night. Im now allowed 2 eat soft food, and ive just had a go at eating some scrumbbled egg and lemon cake! Its so nice to be able to eat real food and not soup through a siringe. It felt very wierd though and i still cant really chew, but im sure each day it will become easier.

The swelling seems to have gone down alot the last few days so i think i look almost normal, im beggining to feel alot happier with my face and my profile now and im constantly smiling!!

Saturday 14 July 2007

Yay i can smile!! Heres me 3 weeks and 5 days after the op, im still a bit swollen in the cheeks, but atleast i can smile! Its so wierd ive never been able to smile properly before or fake smile! lol

Well this is me about 4 days after the operation when i was back at home. Probably the worst day for me, the swelling had peaked, i was sick and my lips were sooooo chapped!

This is me from the front a few months before the operation. I didnt mind photos from the front. but ive noticed since the op my jaw has become much wider - it used to be very narrow. I think its changed in a good way though.

Ahh heres me the night before the operation.

Id never ever take photos from the side before because of my over bite
Well i was planning on writing here everyday, but that doesnt seem to have happend! Haha. Im now 4 weeks post op. Still feeling a bit swollen and still have the bands, although there quite lose and i can open my mouth about half an inch, hurray! Just big enough to slip a piece of chocolate in! Im going back to the authodontists tomorrow and hopefully they will take the bands off. Ive been feeling a bit down the last few days, im beggining to feel better, not so tired, but i have hardly been out since the op and am finding it hard to leave the house, i feel like a freak :(. Im sure its not as bad as i think but im just paranoid about the swelling and worried about not being able to speak properly in public. Ive also a stone in weight since the op but im gradualy putting it back on!...

Im gona try and put some pics up!

Day 1

18/6/07

Monday was the day of my surgery, i was terrified and almost didnt go through with it. I had a pre med which helped as it calmed me down while falling off to sleep. I think the operation took about 2 hours. I remember waking up and hearing voices all around me but apparently then went on to sleep for another 2 hours! The first day i dont remember any pain because off all the drugs. I was very swollen but luckily my mum coverd my face in ARNICA as soon as i woke up to avoid getting bruises, i highley recomend it! I was sicking up blood most of that day which is ment to be normal as well as nose bleeds

intro

Hiya my names cornelia Im 17 and From The Uk. Ive had braces for 2 years and a week ago i have maxilofacial jaw surgery. I Have an overbite as well as an open and both jaws were broken and repositioned.

Im guna have alot of freee time in the next few weeks! so decided i might aswell create a blog about my journey through the surgery from the first day and each day as they go, i found readying other people's blogs on this surgery really useful and comforting knowing others are going through the same experiences.

Ill post more in a while! xx
